The point I want to make goes beyond mere symbols. What was found at Maresha was a Christian cross in 80 BC. That means that there were Christians around 80 years before Christ was said to have lived. This is evidence for a viewpoint of Christianity where the religion was around for generations, then Mark et al decided to write it all down. This fictionalized account, though, situated Christ a century later than the religion actually began.
